AREC - Amateur Radio Emergency Communications
    Today is International Woman's Day.
We would like to recognise all our wonderful wahine who volunteer their time and skills to the world of amateur radio.

From car rallies & local activities, through to emergency events including the most recent Cyclone Gabrielle, women have played an intricate role providing radio communications throughout Aotearoa.

AREC would like to thank each and every one of you.

'Keeping in touch when it counts'
Great article recognising all 'Hams' who supported Tairawhiti - Gisborne, through the worst devastation the region had seen in decades.

Two AREC Members recognised for their support to Land Search & Rescue New Zealand with Plaque Awards at LandSAR Hui over the weekend.

Jill O’Donnell – Plaque Award – Taranaki Land Search and Rescue group – 34 Years

As well as Jill’s many years as radio operator in the IMT, she is the group’s camp coordinator. She not only volunteers her time and radio skills to Search & Rescue, but also to AREC, NZ Police, Coastguard and Civil Defence. Jill is also the Comms SME for the group.

Group members have said that it is always reassuring to have Jill in the radio room with a familiar voice, wherever that happens to be in the Taranaki region.

Wynne Morgan – Plaque Award – Wellington Land Search and Rescue – 7 years

Wynne is a Field Team Member, and a long-term member of Wellington AREC.

Wynne tirelessly and often thanklessly maintain the Group equipment including the deployable field equipment and group deployable communication equipment. Additionally, Wynne takes on the role of Staging Area Manager for operational deployments.

A significant amount of his work is in the background, ensuring the field teams can rely upon their equipment. It is this hidden effort and his field work that is recognised in this award.

    Congratulations to Jill and Wynne
